Going back to Japan to see my elderly parents and reconnect with my home country, It struck me that nothing is permanent; parents who were once young and capable are now old. My mum has developed dementia—I’ve come to terms with the fact that we all at some point, have to say goodbye to this world.
I want to make each day meaningful, rather than repeating the same patterns over and over.

About Aging

I'm turning 50 this year. I have no kids, just my wife and a cat, so my mindset hasn't changed much from my 20s. My hair has gotten grayer and thinner, but I'm still fit and able. I've been thinking about how much healthy lifetime is left for me and what I should do with that time.

I've been fortunate to never have experienced war or hunger. I want to be less judgmental and keep my mind open to new ideas. And when my end eventually comes, I want to be at peace with it.

See the Moment

After taking photographs in Edinburgh and looking at many different types of street photographs by very good photographers from the past and present, it occurred to me that there's an infinite number of ways to see through a camera. It's not just one way.

It's not just about representing what you see but also what the camera sees—the focal length, aperture, exposure, light, shadows, layers of reflection, and how you edit it—all change the image. Each time you see something, it constantly changes. One moment it's there, and the next moment it disappears, and it's never the same again.

There are infinite possibilities. I just have to see them through my camera, and hopefully, I'll get better at it.
